Covid law amendmentsState Council criticises legal ambiguities in formal assessment

RTL Today
The State Council published its formal assessment of the Covid law amendments on Monday morning.

Only two weeks after the introduction of the latest Covid laws, the Chamber is set to amend restrictions once more with the help of a respective draft bill. The formal assessment published by the State Council notes acceptance of the document, but criticises a number of legal ambiguities.

The Council questions the decision to fix the validity of vaccine certificates to nine months while the 2G system will simultaneously be eased for people who have not yet received a booster jab. The assessment emphasises that the decision has no scientific grounds and expresses little understanding for the “government’s change of course”.

The Council opposes four particular points due to legal ambiguities in the text. These include the designation of which group will be prioritised in terms booster shots and the reducing of the isolation period from ten to six days for people who test positive for Covid-19. In this regard, the Council argues in favour of using PCR tests instead of rapid tests to cut isolation periods short.

The Chamber’s health commission will review the State Council’s assessment on Monday afternoon. The text is then expected to be accepted with a majority of votes on Tuesday.
