Vulnerable children aged 5-11 years and those in regular contact with vulnerable people will have the opportunity to be vaccinated on a voluntary basis.
The recommended vaccination schedule consists of two doses spaced four weeks (28 days) apart. Children who celebrate their 12th birthday before receiving their second dose can receive the same vaccine as adults (BioNTech/Pfizer).
Note that the dose for children aged 5-11 years is lower (with an adapted dosage of 10 µg) than that recommended for children aged 12 years and over, at one third of the adult dose.
The relevant vulnerabilities for children can be found on the Ministry of Health's website.
The children concerned can be registered via their doctor or paediatrician from 14 December and will then receive an invitation by post. Vaccination can also be carried out directly by doctors who are involved in vaccinating children.
In a second phase, vaccination for all children aged 5 to 11 will be opened after the publication of a study on results from childhood vaccination in the US.
The government will communicate the details when the results of the study are available.
