In a statement published on Wednesday, the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) points out women still earn 14% less than men in the EU in 2021. In Luxembourg, the wage difference is over 7%.
For this reason, the trade union reiterates its demand for an increase of the minimum wage. The OGBL argues that this is one way to mitigate the issue of unequal pay, explaining that industries in which a large majority of workers is female, such as the cleaning or hospitality sector, generally pay the lowest salaries.
