Newspaper Wort reported that a woman was bitten by a fox in Kehlen on Friday morning. She was sitting on her terrace drinking a cup of coffee at around 7am, when all of a sudden a fox appeared next to her. The animal quickly approached, bit the woman’s leg, and then disappeared again.
Upon enquiry, local authorities confirmed that this was not the first incident reported in town. Although the possibility of contracting rabies is relatively slight, specific measures will still be taken.
Dr Laurent Schley, who is the deputy director of the environment agency, explained that though unusual, the animal’s behaviour could still have a logical explanation. No cases of rabies have been recorded in western Europe since 2004, which makes it unlikely that it is the cause for the incidents in Kehlen.
Authorities will now try to capture the fox so that they can put it down humanely and analyse the animal in the laboratory.
