“Buy, sell, negotiate, and win!” With this principle turned slogan, the board game Monopoly rose to global fame since its first introduction in 1935. Despite being a game by definition, Monopoly has certainly been responsible for more than one family feud over the years, but this has never taken a toll on the game’s popularity.
Now, a brand new Luxembourg edition of Monopoly has entered the market following a limited run in 2000. Developed jointly be the US American editors, local sponsors, and a Luxembourgish bookstore chain, the game allows players to buy prestigious monuments and areas in the Grand Duchy, including the “Gëlle Fra”, the Grand Ducal Palace, the Mullerthal, or the Moselle Valley.
Another unique feature of the edition is that it comes in three languages: Luxembourgish, French, and English. This strategy was chosen to respond to the demand of the local market, and, according to project leader Paul Ernster, the game thereby represents “a great gift” for people who just moved to the Grand Duchy.

However, Ernster assured that by April 2022, 6,000 further issues will hit the market.
*an earlier version of this article indicated that this was the first Luxembourg Monopoly, however it has been brought to our attention that a version did do the rounds ca. 2000.
