At least one of the Covid-19 measures introduced in secondary schools appears to be here to stay: the organisation of the school year in semesters.
This pattern was introduced during the pandemic to reduce stress.
However, there is one exception: In the case of the preparational stream ("Voie de Préparation"), it will be up to the individual school administrations to decide whether they want to divide the school year in trimesters or semesters.
In the country's primary schools, the school year will continue to be divided into trimesters.
Minister of Education Claude Meisch pointed out in his answer to an urgent parliamentary question by MP Francine Closener from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) that a final decision on how to organise school years in the future has yet to be reached. The Ministry plans to organise major surveys on the matter over the course of the upcoming year.
