It's official: the next municipal elections will take place in June 2023.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the board of the Luxembourg Association of Cities and Municipalities (Syvicol) agreed on a date for the next municipal elections: 11 June 2023.

In this context, amendments to the electoral law of February 2003 and the communal law of December 1988 are to be announced "shortly", according to a press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Voters will thus be called to vote on a Sunday, as is the tradition. It is to be expected that the municipal elections will influence the strategy of the political parties for the next legislative elections (October 2023).

As a reminder, municipal elections are held every six years in Luxembourg, while legislative elections are held every five years.
