Both parents and professionals strongly rejected restrictions on fathers-to-be attending antenatal appointments.
On Monday, the Luxembourgish Association of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians therefore released an official statement in which it addresses the situation.
The association insists that even in times of the pandemic, prospective fathers should be allowed to accompany the pregnant mother for this important step in the lives of their children.
At the same time, one should not forget that there are also vulnerable patients visiting gynaecological practices for appointments, and their safety needs to be guaranteed.
Nevertheless, the relationship between father and child is as important as the maternal one, which is why they should not be denied the right to be present during the ultrasound scan.
Fathers will thus be allowed access only to the room in which the scan takes place, not to the general waiting areas. Furthermore, a time limit will be set to help facilitate sanitary procedures before and after.
