Recently, Patientevertriedung has reported that a number of vulnerable people who were to be vaccinated had been disconcerted by this process and had sometimes gone home without receiving an injection.
A doctor, either a general practitioner or a specialist, had given them prior advice on which vaccine they should receive. But in many cases, this advice is not respected in the vaccination centres.
On Thursday morning, the non-profit said it was receiving more and more calls on this subject. The president of the Association of Doctors and Dentists (AMMD), Alain Schmit, has now responded to the criticism.
Schmit stated that it is perfectly understandable that among doctors, too, there are “preferences regarding vaccines”, and many doctors are following the developments regarding the different vaccines very closely.
However, Schmit stressed that this “personal preference” is “unfortunately not compatible with [the amount of] vaccines that we have”. According to the AMMD President, this is also the reason why doctors at vaccination centres cannot always respect the personal wishes of a patient or a prescribing doctor.
While he can understand people’s fears, Schmit stressed that the simple truth of the matter is that Luxembourg currently only has “a limited number of doses of each vaccine”.
In addition, there is no justification from a medical point of view for not being vaccinated, Schmit pointed out. The risk of developing a severe form of Covid-19 is “significantly higher than the risk of possible side effects from any of the vaccines”, the AMMD President concluded.
