The Ministries of the Environment and Agriculture have recently launched a new campaign to raise awareness for the damage caused by plastic and glass waste.
According to Jeff Schroeder, the president of the Luxembourg Young Farmers Association, littering has increased significantly during the pandemic. Schroeder thinks that this is due to more people hiking across fields and forest paths since the start of the health crisis.
Over the upcoming weeks, 350 new signs depicting cows with waste in their stomachs are to be put up by the country's farmers. Schroeder stresses that the damage is particularly devastating for the agricultural industry.
The pollution has not yet had an effect on the quality of products made in Luxembourg, something which would have been detected by the quality checks carried out on a regular basis.
