Rapid self-tests may soon become as omnipresent as masks and hand sanitiser.

In Germany, these types of tests have been widely available for a while now. As of recently, Luxembourg residents have also been able to purchase them in local pharmacies.

Since last weekend, supermarkets have also started selling coronavirus tests and they are now almost sold out at most locations. However, stocks are to be replenished even before the start of the weekend and as of next week, the tests will also be sold individually.

Rapid tests have already been sold in pharmacies for some time. Two types of tests are currently on the market, one based on nasal swabs and another using saliva. Both are said to be in equally high demand. The tests have been designed to be very easy to use.

The rapid tests currently cost between €4 and €9 a piece. During the initial distribution phase, 17% VAT was added to the price, but, they will be exempt from VAT as of next week.
