The official reason given for this decision is that over 25% of the drivers' professional activity takes place abroad. During a press conference on Tuesday morning, the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) accused Minister of Social Security Romain Schneider of being "indifferent" to the issue and "hiding behind the legal framework instead of doing something about it".
The trade union demands the negotiation of bilateral agreements, particularly with Luxembourg's neighbouring countries, in order to regulate the situation of those affected. It is not acceptable, the LCGB stressed, that the drivers were simply deregistered from the CCSS in Luxembourg even though they have not yet registered with an insurance provider in their country of residence.
