During the ninth calendar week from 1 to 7 March, the LNS analysed a total of 475 samples. The UK variant of the coronavirus accounted for 62% of all cases, while the South African variant could be detected in 18.5% of the samples.
This was reported by the LNS in a 13-pages-long report published on Thursday evening.
The report lists a total of ten different mutations.
One sample also confirmed the presence of the Brazilian variant in the Grand Duchy. Researchers think that a previous infection with the coronavirus does not grant immunity against this variant. This theory is backed up by a multitude of cases in the Brazilian city of Manaus.
