During a joint meeting between the Chamber’s finance and budget commission and the budgetary control commission, Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna presented his report on the state finances dating to 31 January 2021.
Revenue for the month of January rose by 2.8% in 2021.
Within the same time frame, spending went down by 3.4%, which means that the budget deficit of €270 million will be reduced to €152 million.
Minister Gramegna noted: “Despite these encouraging signs at the beginning of the year, it is too early to determine a definitive tendency, given that the economy still suffers under the implications of this unprecedented health crisis. Nevertheless, the fiscal resilience of some areas proves the solidity of our economic fabric. The government has therefore kept investments high throughout the pandemic without neglecting its social responsibilities. I am confident that the year 2021 will be better than the previous one.”
