Since the New Year, customs officials in Luxembourg have conducted 210 checks of 59 lorries, issuing 103 taxed warnings for serious infractions as a result.
In one case, customs officers intercepted a lorry loaded with wood, which showed clear signs of non-compliance with several laws. The truck's load was 1.5 tonnes over the limit, as well as 3.5 metres over the legal length. In addition to this, the load was not properly secured to the trailer, two of the truck's tyres did not conform to regulations, and the vehicle's brakes were found to be in poor condition.
The vehicle's Eurovignette was also not up to date, meaning the driver did not have a permit to transport timber. The truck was immobilised and a fine of €1,879 issued.
