The Christmas period saw a drop in testing and therefore also a decline in reported cases, but overall the situation is improving little by little.
For the week of 21-27 December, which includes the Christmas holidays, 1,267 people in Luxembourg tested positive for Covid-19 compared to 2,681 the week before. This 53% decline is mainly reflected in the number of tests, however, as those too dropped from 78,271 to 49,875.
The positivity rate this week was 2.54%, which fell from 3.43%. The average age of positive cases increased from 38.4 years to 41.1 years. However, it should be noted that the positivity rate for tests performed on prescription was 5.13%.
In line with the holiday break, contact tracing decreased from 8,620 to 3,207 cases.
As of 27 December, the number of active infections stood at 4,906 (compared to 7,128 on 20 December) and the number of people 'cured' has increased from 37,004 to 40,456.
Regarding deaths, the situation has remained virtually unchanged, with 37 new deaths spanning the week compared to 38 the week prior. The average age of those who died was 77 years old.
135 hospitalisations in normal care and 37 in intensive care were confirmed against 181 and 43, respectively.
The effective reproduction rate (RT eff) decreased from 0.87 to 0.39%. The incidence rate is 202 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 7 days.
5,301 people were in isolation (-23%) and 4,342 in quarantine (-49% compared to the previous week).
The rate of infections for which the source is not clearly attributable is falling slowly (now at 27.8%).
According to the analysis carried out over two full days and covering 633 cases, the family circle remains the most frequent context of transmission of COVID-19 infections (43.2%).
The two consultation centres (CCC), open in Kirchberg and Esch-sur-Alzette, recorded a total of 5,252 visits, including 478 visits for the week of December 21 to 27.
