Minister of Health Paulette Lenert (LSAP) conveyed these numbers as part of her response to an urgent enquiry by MP Jeff Engelen (ADR).
The scientific community remains divided over the effectiveness of the drug in treating Covid-19 patients. 5 days ago, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) decided to leave it on the market.
The Grand Duchy purchased 115 doses from the US American biopharmaceutical company Gilead. At €345 per dose, the order amounts to a total of €40,000.
Minister Lenert was able to convey these numbers after a confidentiality clause in the contract was revoked. Up until now, 79 doses of Remdesivir have been delivered. Lenert did not specify if or where they have been used. She further noted that the latest WHO recommendation advised for a conditional use of the drug.
