Some question the existence of the virus altogether while others resist the measures being taken to control the spread. 20 of them could be found demonstrating in town yesterday. They were unwilling to talk to RTL, but made it clear that they were not demonstrating against something, but for freedom and self-determination.
Among the counter-demonstrators was satirist Jeff Cigrand, who did not mince his words.
“We are of the opinion that measures such as wearing a mask are very important and relevant to reduce the spread of the virus. Those kinds of people are preventing that and causing the steep increase in infections we are seeing.”
He has no sympathy for those who oppose these measures. The kind of information that is spread at such events is dangerous and must be stopped, according to him.
“They don’t have facts, they just put out claims they think they’ve understood and tell people to “look it up”, but they have created their own bubble they live in and get their information from.”
Germany, too, saw a number of demonstrations opposing measures to control Coronavirus. Around 20,000 people gathered in Leipzig, mostly disregarding mask wearing and distancing.
