The parliamentary commissions for the economy and the environment are still debating whether or not the memorandum of understanding between Google and the Luxembourgish government will be made public. According to a statement made by François Benoy from The Greens, the government does not envision a publication of the respective documents.
CSV MP Claude Wiseler demanded that the government release the documents on Friday, arguing that the Chamber of Deputies had now been waiting for more than a year. LSAP MP Claude Haagen added that he had suggested to release the documents to the Chamber of Deputies on 11 June behind closed doors after it has been carefully checked.
CSV also demanded the release of a financial report about the planned installation of a yoghurt factory by Greek producer Fage. The party wants further insight regarding the government's exchange with Fage. Nonetheless, Wiseler had some encouraging words directed at the new Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot. Wiseler welcomed the fact that Fayot takes a different approach than his predecessor and is only willing to sell the land if absolutely necessary.
Bettembourg residents will soon be able to access the documents regarding the planned yoghurt factory, get an opportunity to have their say in the matter, and issue complaints. Both the majority of the Chamber of Deputies and the opposition parties remain sceptical towards the project - Fage could potentially use the same amount of potable water as 20,000 citizens.
Less scepticism is directed at internet giant Google, as their project is still in earlier stages. The reallocation of land remains an ongoing process, and an evaluation by the Ministry of the Environment is still pending.
