On Wednesday, MPs unanimously voted in favour of a series of amendments to the bill punishing voyeuristic behaviour.
These amendments were notably designed to integrate this offence in the penal code. The text dictates that the dissemination of images taken without the subject's knowledge can also be sanctioned.
Following the session, CSV MP Gilles Roth expressed his happiness that his bill had been unanimously adopted by the MPs of the commission.
Voyeurism will now be punished, comprising the following types of offences: Upskirting, that is, when someone films or photographs another person's private parts without their consent, for example under their skirt. Taking photos of a person without their knowledge in public places, such as fitting rooms, saunas, through keyholes, or on public transport will be punishable under Luxembourg law.
According to Roth, such acts were considered offences in in French and Belgian law, but not in the Grand Duchy. There was therefore a gap to be filled.
The bill will now be sent to the Council of State for debate, then it is expected to return to the Chamber by the start of the school year.
