
The questions focused on dementia patients and their care during the health crisis.
The ministers clarified that the Ministry of Health offers assistance to the establishments concerned on how to deal with the situation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Family and Integration.
The video conference included a brief discussion on the supply of equipment for staff in the personal care sector. Since the last update two weeks ago, protective equipment has now been delivered to staff, according to Cahen.
However, the conference mainly focused on the health of retirement and care home residents. Cahen explained ten people who tested positive for coronavirus have since recovered after two weeks of quarantine.
Of the 7,000 people housed in retirement and care facilities in the Grand Duchy, 99 have tested positive for coronavirus as of Wednesday evening.
The pressure faced by staff in these establishments was also discussed during the video conference, with Cahen explaining she had not yet been told that staff had reached their limits.
However, she underlined the importance of communication between facility managers and the government to ensure staff are not neglected. The government would be happy to offer support, psychological assistance, and advice where needed. Cahen also said they had a reserve National Health Authority if necessary
Finally, the ministers spoke of the "Wanteraktioun", an initiative which provides accommodation for homeless people during the winter months. This action will now be extended until the end of April, when it will be re-evaluated.
