Luxembourg may see the peak of Covid-19 infections by the middle of this week, Dr Philippe Wilmes of Robert-Schuman hospitals told RTL.
According to Dr Wilmes, simulations indicate that the peak of infections may occur this week.
"If we consider the incubation period, which can last up to 10 days, the peak in hospital admissions could be reached in 10-14 days," Dr Wilmes explained.
He added that the hospitalisation rate has been fairly stable in recent days and showed himself cautiously optimistic with regard to the evolution of the situation. Self-isolation and social distancing remain key.
Protective suits produced in Luxembourg
Ordering medical and personal protective equipment remains challenging. Tyvek protective suits and aprons for Robert Schuman hospitals are currently being sewn in Luxembourg.
The Tyvek material is produced in Contern for the American company DuPont. Before the coronavirus crisis, the protective suits were usually produced abroad but this has now changed - at least to a certain extent. As of last Tuesday, Luxembourg produces between 250 and 300 protective suits a day. One part of the produced equipment will be added to the national stockpile.
Some hospitals require between 200 to 300 protective suits per day.
