
According to statistics released by Statec, Foreigners represent 47% of the population - the Grand Duchy remains a country of immigration. Luxembourgers make up 52.6% of all residents.
Last year saw 1,637 French nationals, 1,020 Italians, and 982 Portuguese people move to the Grand Duchy. The Portuguese community remains the largest expat community in Luxembourg, making up 15.2% of the population.

Luxembourg’s population pyramid shows that the highest percentage of Luxembourgers can be found in the age group 55+. Foreigners for example only account for 29% in the 65+ age group. The opposite holds true in the 30-53 age group, which has more foreign nationals than Luxembourgers.

There were sightly fewer births in 2019 than in the previous year. 6,230 babies saw the light of day in Luxembourg last year.
4,283 people passed away in 2019, which also represents a slight decrease compared to 2018. The average life expectancy is 80 for men and 84.5 for women.
On the one hand, there were more than 2,100 weddings in 2019. This number is synonymous with a 13% increase compared to 2018. On the other hand, 1,906 divorces took place in 2019 - a 55% increase compared to 2018.
