A number of Buergbrennen events were cancelled on Saturday and Sunday due to high winds.
Violent winds of up to 100km/h plagued the nation between 2pm and 6pm on Saturday, leading Meteolux to issue an orange weather warning and many municipalities to cancel the traditional Buergbrennen.
The municipality of Beaufort was not to be intimidated and went on with "burning winter" as planned.
Oberdonven also went on with the traditional event.

Buergbrennen (not) cancelled
On Sunday
The Guides and Scouts of Junglinster cancelled Bergbrennen but not all is lost: there will be a casual evening with barbecue and traditional "Iebsebulli" (you can only call yourself a diehard Luxembourger after you've tried what literally translates into "peas mud") at the Home Baltes next to Junglinster church.
Strassen and Grevenmacher also cancelled the event.
Winter will be symbolically burned in Beringen/Mersch at 8pm. Be prepared to treat yourself to a big bowl of Iebsebulli. The proceeds will be donated to the Bletz non-profit organisation.
Buergbrennen will also take place in Bous despite the stormy conditions.
On Saturday
The event was cancelled in Schifflange. It is likely to be postponed but no date has been set yet. Dudelange also cancelled.
No Buergbrennen in Schuttrange but there will be onion soup to make up for the local youth club will serve onion soup to make up for the cancellation from 5pm onwards.
Steinsel announced that Buergbrennen was also cancelled in the neighbouring Heisdorf.
Bockhoktz posponed Buergbrennen until Sunday.
Diekirch, Berdrof, Niederpallen and Olm also cancelled the event. Both Vichten and Reisdorf postponed Buergbrennen until 7 March. Bettendorf postponed until 8 March.
Manternach cancelled the traditional burning of winter due to the weather conditions. Food and drinks were nevertheless served. The same held true for Berbourg.
