Whether suffering from minor or severe depression, the Ministry of Health's latest figures reveal that thousands of Luxembourgers have mental health issues.

The prévention-dépression.lu website was launched in October 2016 and has drawn in 56,000 users since the site first went online. Of those users, 12,015 people decided to take the online PHQ-9 test to determine whether or not they are suffering from depression.

According to the figures released by the Ministry of Health on Saturday, almost every one out of two people having taken the test is suffering from severe depression (47.9%). In other words, 5,758 respondents struggle with serious depression.

An additional 3,087 people who took the test have symptoms of moderately severe depression (25.7%), whereas 2,219 show minor symptoms (18.5%). All in all, more than 92% of those who opted to take the test learnt that they are struggling with depression, a point which speaks for itself.

More users in Luxembourg

Contrary to the suicide prevention website, the ministry's depression prevention website is consulted by more IP addresses registered in Luxembourg (46.33%) than in France (20.82%).

Whilst French IP addresses may make up a significant proportion of those using the website, Belgian and German IP addresses (a respective 4.26% and 4.09%) lag behind, alongside - surprisingly - Canadian IP addresses (4.06%).
