On Saturday afternoon, CHL director Romain Nati confirmed that it could be ruled out at that point that the patient in question contracted the coronavirus.

This was the first suspected case of the coronavirus in Luxembourg. The person in question was put in quarantine and tests were run, according to Romain Nati, director of the CHL.

By Saturday evening the lab tests confirmed that the patient did not carry the coronavirus - which means Luxembourg has yet to see its first case of the virus, which has made its way to both Germany and France. The patient suspected of being the first in Luxembourg was removed from isolation and returned home.

The authorities note that the procedures set up to handle urgent cases of potentially fast-spreading outbreaks had worked as planned.

Health authorities also issued a reminder that people returning from China should stay home if, within 14 days of their return, they experience issues with breathing, and call for medical assistance.

For those who are potentially infected: do NOT visit your doctor or emergency services

The authorities seek to remind those travelling back from China to stay at home should any respiratory problems surface within 14 days of their return.

They are to call either health inspection services, or 112 if it's outside normal working hours. They should not leave to visit their doctor or to go to emergency services in order to keep the risk of contagion to a minimum. Masks should also be worn when in contact with others.

Every potential case has to be reported to the health service management, and the at-risk person will be quarantined in a special room, as was the case on Saturday.

All potential patients quarantined

CHL director Dr. Romain Nati commented on the situation on Saturday, and explained that anyone who was at risk needed to be quarantined until it was absolutely certain that they were in the clear.
