Pim Knaff, lawyer and Esch-sur-Alzette alderman, will succeed Eugène Berger after the latter's death last week.

A government reshuffle is set to take place on Tuesday 4 February.

Pim Knaff will be sworn in as a new MP, as he takes over the seat left vacant after the death of Eugène Berger. The Democratic Party will also meet to appoint a new president, expected to be Gilles Baum. Baum was acting president and was expected to succeed Berger in 2021.

Also on Tuesday, Etienne Schneider will terminate his political career and hand over to his successors. He will meet with Grand Duke Henri early on Tuesday afternoon.

Following this, at 2.30pm, Franz Fayot will be sworn in as a new member of the government, taking on the roles of Economy and Cooperation. The Health portfolio will go to Paulette Lenert and Dan Kersch will be Deputy Prime Minister.
