RTL received reports from various areas in Luxembourg on Monday afternoon, as shoppers were unable to make card payments in numerous stores. The issue developed at around 3.55pm and continued for half an hour or so. Card transactions appeared to work once more from around 4.30pm.

In a written statement to RTL on Tuesday, payment service provider Worldline confirmed a temporary disruption between 3.38pm and 4.19pm affecting payment acceptance in Luxembourg. The company said its teams were fully mobilised to resolve the issue, which was triggered by an internal infrastructure problem affecting connectivity on some of its processing platforms.

Worldline added that the issue had been resolved since 4.19pm on Monday and that all services had returned to normal conditions, with its teams continuing to monitor systems proactively.

The company expressed regret over the situation and apologised to affected merchants and cardholders.
