The swimming pool in Vianden will be closed to the public from 5 July onward. This decision was made due to two recent accidents.
On Saturday, an accident occurred which could have had serious consequences, but fortunately ended well. A six-year-old boy nearly drowned, but could be resuscitated. A further, less serious accident occurred on Thursday.
These two incidents taken together have led the Vianden mayoral council to pull the emergency brake and close the pool until further notice. Health and safety authorities have visited the facilities and discussed with the matter with the municipality's management.
The council are now looking for a certified life guard with relevant safety qualifications to help review and revise their health and safety procedures.
Thursday saw around 400 visitors at the pool, which saw a total of around 30,000 swimmers last year.
