After the World Health Organisation announced that measles cases jumped by 300% in the first few months of 2019, the Luxembourgish authorities have published recommendations as well.

In general, the health authorities advised that everybody should receive the vaccine against measles, but especially those born after 1980 should check their vaccines are up to date.

The ministry confirmed that there have been 18 cases of measles in Luxembourg in this year. Those diagnosed with measles are between the ages of eight and 30.

Those born after 1980 should double check their vaccine cards to ensure their measles vaccines are up to date, respectively check whether they received the vaccine in the first place.

As Dr Pierre Weicherding from the ministry's sanitary inspection unit explains, measles is one of the most dangerous children's diseases worldwide and is highly infectious. He stressed that measles can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia and brain infections
