The internet shopping giant established activities in Luxembourg just about 15 years ago. By 2019, it has become the 11th largest employer in the Grand Duchy.

The American company's European headquarters is based in Luxembourg, in Clausen to be exact. In the last year, Amazon has significantly expanded its services at the corporate office based in Luxembourg.

The main departments based in Clausen are the Amazon Europe finance department, the legal department, human resources, and software developers. The latter focus on developing Amazon's website in multiple languages. In total, the firm has more than 2,000 employees based in Luxembourg.

Valeri Liborski, director of EU Technology, spoke to RTL about the business's aims in Luxembourg. According to Liborski, the predominant focus is to develop technologies to allow customers to find the products they're looking for as quickly and as cheaply as possible.

If customers are able to navigate Amazon's search function and website better, it follows that they will spend more. In the last quarter of 2018, the online shopping giant's profits were over €2.5 billion.
