
Throughout the meeting, the justice department was informed of the most common forms of trafficking in the EU, the care of victims of trafficking, as well as the effective prosecution and punishment of perpetrators. At the same time, the committee also announced its new proposal for a European directive to strengthen the repression of trafficking.
The Minister of Justice stressed the importance of cooperation with the monitoring committee in an effort to improve the fight against human trafficking which requires careful and specific measures.
In this context, awareness-raising and information campaigns are not only aimed at the general public, but also at the victims of trafficking, Tanson adds. In addition to providing information, the ministry hopes to encourage victims of trafficking to file official complaint as the prosecution of perpetuators remains especially difficult.
