Google has published statistics based on the location data of its users worldwide, to help public authorities assess the effectiveness of containment measures.
For Luxembourg, this analysis noted 90% fewer trips for leisure activities such as restaurants, cinemas, libraries, but also shopping centres, during the month of March.
Food shops, markets and pharmacies also saw a drop in travel of 70% despite a very significant increase of around 50% on 15 and 16 March.
78% fewer people are using public transport and only 66% less in parks, playgrounds and public spaces.
Work-related places have seen their attendance drop by 60% while, conversely, people are spending more time at home, with an increase of 23%.
This information could help authorities to put new recommendations in place regarding opening hours or delivery service offerings.
The report uses anonymous data from Google users who have their location history activated. This can be switched off in account settings.
