RTL Today
A serious accident involving a tractor with a trailer and a car happened in Blumenthal on Monday morning.

The police reported that the tractor was travelling along the N14 from Reuland in the direction of Blumenthal, when a falling tree landed on the tractor's cabin. Due to the force of the impact the tree broke and landed on the roof of a car travelling in the other lane.

Both drivers sustained serious injuries and had to be freed from their vehicles. Just after 6pm on Monday, the police announced that the car driver succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital. The deceased motorist was a 51-year-old man from Echternach.

The road remains closed to traffic to allow emergency services to access the wounded individuals and to clear the site of the accident. First responders (Samu) from the centre and the north of the country attended the scene alongside ambulances from Larochette and Echternach, and firefighters from Larochette, Junglinster, Waldbillig, Echternach, and Heffingen.

The emergency services phone line 112 had had over 100 calls by 11am due to the storm, mainly concerning trees that had fallen onto roads.

Around 30 calls were to notify the emergency services of flooded basements.
