On Saturday, more than 80 firefighters united voluntarily to fill about 5,000 bags of sand, which could be used to protect buildings and roads at risk of flooding following a sudden rise of water levels.
The bags will be distributed to 20 emergency centres all over the country to allow a quick emergency response in case of urgent need.
The sand was provided by two private companies in Luxembourg and filled in a warehouse provided by Fonds du Logement, while logistics were taken care of by the town of Dudelange.
Emergency services thank all persons involved in this initiative, many of whom used their own free time to help protect the country and its population from sometimes dramatic situations.
