The majority of companies seeking state support to reduce working hours have had their applications approved, with up to 2,700 employees potentially affected.

The Economic Committee convened on Tuesday morning to assess the economic situation and review applications for short-time work submitted for the month of March. The meeting was presided over by Minister of Labour Marc Spautz and Minister of the Economy Lex Delles.

A total of 51 companies submitted applications to implement short-time work during the upcoming month. Of these, 46 were approved, potentially affecting up to 2,700 employees.

There is a three-month delay before the committee publicly discloses how many businesses ultimately make use of the measure. In November 2025, only 35 of the 51 companies whose applications had been approved actually ended up utilising short-time work.
