The Fire and Rescue Coprs (CGDIS) had reported the incident earlier in the day, noting three people were injured in a collision on the RN31, between Bascharage and Pétange.

According to a police statement released in the afternoon, a car and a van had collided. Initial findings suggest the driver of the car, who was heading towards Pétange, lost control of his vehicle for reasons still unknown and veered into the oncoming lane, where he struck the delivery van.

The force of the impact pushed the delivery van several metres back into a ditch. The car, occupied by a man and a woman, was so severely damaged that both were ejected from the vehicle.

All three individuals sustained serious to life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital. The 22-year-old woman later died as a result of her injuries.

The public prosecutor’s office was informed, and the forensics and investigation unit is working to determine the cause of the accident. The road was closed during the emergency response.

Emergency services of Esch, Pétange, and Käerjeng, and the fire and rescue corps of Sanem and Differdange (Zenter SaDiff), as well as a helicopter from Air Rescue, were on the scene.
