The loss of up to around 260 jobs within the next 3 to 5 years has been public knowledge since early June. ArcelorMittal has now confirmed that it will indeed impact 216 positions over the next 5 years.
The company, quoted in the Luxembourger Wort, maintains that this number is below the average employee turnover, however the trade unions remain unimpressed, demanding more job security as well as information pertaining to how these developments will affect staff.
It seems that no employees will be made redundant: instead the cuts will be brought into effect by departures that will not be replaced and early retirement.
