Pierre Weimerskirch spoke to residents at CIPA Waassertrap, discussing their views on 2021 and what they are hoping for as we head into 2022.
The vaccine campaign, which launched in January 2021, offered a light at the end of the tunnel for the many vulnerable and elderly residents who spent most of 2020 shielding from the virus. But life in Luxembourg’s care homes is still not the same as it was prior to the pandemic. Visitors must observe strict rules in accordance with the CovidCheck restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus to vulnerable residents.
Despite this, the residents feel somewhat more protected by the vaccine. Around 95% of residents have been vaccinated, according to Servior director Raoul Vinandy.
A Waassertrap resident told RTL that despite warring political and social discourse, he felt the vaccine campaign and its results showed the methods were justified. He also took a dim view of the recent anti-Covid protests, saying he felt demonstrators should listen to Holocaust survivors and their experiences as the situations were not comparable.
