Environment2020 goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 1 million tons

Maxime Gillen
Next year the government's goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by a million tons compared to 2019.

Minister for Energy Claude Turmes  confirmed the above in response to a parliamentary question.

Emissions per country are calculated based on petrol sales, among other factors. In Luxembourg the sale of diesel and petrol amounts to two thirds of the Grand Duchy's total emissions.

To improve the country's CO2 emissions, the government are set to encourage a reduction in petrol sales.

An increase in price in the last year has reduced sales slightly, but this is not likely to be sufficient to meet 2020 goals.
