
According to Statec reports, the Luxembourg job market welcomed its 200,000th cross-border worker in May 2019.
With numbers steadily rising, the total figure was boosted by new arrivals over the summer, reaching 201,714 employees from neighbouring countries in July (data adjusted for seasonal variations). In January 2002, this figure was 100,000. The French represent the majority of these employees, with over 103,000 employees registered in the first quarter of 2019.
Germans and Belgians comprise around 47,000 of cross-border workers. Residents of Luxembourg lead the country's workforce with nearly 249,000 employees and 22,000 self-employed workers.
With growth expected to remain above 3% until 2022, the Grand Duchy's labour market is expected to grow by 2% -3% in the next few years.
