Financial support€2,500 sum for childminders

RTL Today
Although childminders are currently unable to practise childcare, they are still entitled to receive service vouchers from the government.

However, the sum depends on the parents' income, so certain childminders are receiving less than minimum wage.

Simone Münstermann usually takes care of 7 children, but is now struggling financially as her income has dropped. Two of her clients don't receive service vouchers, and another is only entitled to 15% worth of service vouchers, which means Münstermann will lose around €1,700 of her April income - around two thirds of her wages. She is left with almost €800 to survive the month.

Münstermann said she hoped the government would be able to support childminders during the health crisis, explaining she did not mind making a loss given the circumstances, but that she needed to be able to earn enough to live on.

The Ministry of Education has acknowledged the difficulties for childminders and stated they would be eligible for the newly announced €2,500 financial aid for self-employed individuals.

Some conditions must be met in order for childminders to benefit from this financial aid, such as they must receive less than 70% of their income through service vouchers, and cannot earn more than 2.5 times the minimum wage.

The Ministry anticipates around 58 childminders to benefit from the financial aid, as well as 9 individuals who have an agreement but do not receive service vouchers.
