Electricity produced from renewable sources covers 16% of national consumption, with the rest mainly imported from Germany, according to the report.
The Institute has also found that changes of electricity supplier are very rare. It is therefore calling on consumers to compare offers on the market. The aim is to compare electricity prices and choose the supplier that seems the most attractive.
This comparison can be done quickly and efficiently via the online platform calculix.lu, where consumers can compare the offers of seven electricity suppliers and five gas suppliers.

Some consumers compare offers, but the number of households that actually change their electricity supplier remains very low, with around a thousand changes over the year out of a total of 323,000 customers.
As far as gas suppliers are concerned, only 300 changes have been recorded among Luxembourg's 91,000 customers.
According to the ILR this is due to consumer inactivity, but also a lack of dynamism and innovation on the part of certain suppliers.
The ILR still observes that relatively few people use the energy they produce with their photovoltaic installation.
Few private electricity producers - there are around 8,000 of them - are aware "that they can first consume their photovoltaic production to cover their household consumption and inject only the surplus into the distribution network", specifies the ILR in its press release.
Since 1 January 2020, the abolition of certain taxes has made the self-consumption of the energy produced by a photovoltaic installation more economically attractive.
According to the ILR, virtually all households in Luxembourg are equipped with smart electricity meters. However, new services based on these smart meters are still available. The grid operator does not yet communicate daily data to the supplier. It is therefore difficult for consumers to access this information on their electricity consumption.
