
Since January, 785 people have applied for international protection in the Grand Duchy – more than double compared to last year during the same period.
Very few asylum seekers have submitted applications during the months of lockdown: 10 applications for international protection were filed in April and 18 in May. Since August, the number of applications has increased again.
The majority of asylum seekers come from Syria, Eritrea, Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Turkey, Guinea-Conakry, and Nigeria.

Since 1 January, 1,129 decisions have already been taken: 568 applicants have been granted refugee status.
84 transfers were organised under the Dublin Regulation, mostly to Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. 59 people arrived in Luxembourg under this procedure.
65 returns of asylum seekers were organised from the Grand Duchy: 47 voluntary and 18 forced.
