Every year the REEL (Réunion européenne des etudiants luxembourgeois) sees Luxembourgish students travel from all over Europe to join the gathering, and this year's event took place in Aachen, Germany.

The first day consisted of welcome events and a partner fair, while the second, a "discovery day" was made up of teambuilding events, with a city-wide rally.

On Saturday, students were asked to dress smartly in order to attend more politically-minded events, including a meeting with a minister, round-table discussions, and a sophisticated evening meal.

Leny Nickels, president of the REEL committee, explained the focus on politics:

"The third day is our big political day, when the students focus on our main topic, this year it was gerontocracy and the future viability of Luxembourg. We like to invite guest speakers and hold rounds of discussions."

Gerontocracy, when society or government is led by significantly older members of society, was the main theme of this year's event. The students were able to exchange their views with the help of politicians and workshops. CSV leader Laurent Zeimet attended this year's event and told the younger generation: "Don't give up, have the courage to engage politically, and also to enjoy life."

The students demonstrated commitment and motivation throughout the event.

"I chose the workshop for school and education, because I'm studying to be a primary school teacher, so it's a topic that interests me. It's interesting to exchange views with people outside of the sector."

120 students from 20 different cities across Europe travelled to Aachen for the event.
