Each year, Creditreform, a specialist in economic information and marketing data, analyses the number of bankruptcies in the country. For 2025, it recorded a total of 1,187 insolvencies.
The data shows that the number of bankruptcies has remained relatively stable compared to neighbouring countries. In Germany, for example, insolvencies rose by 8%, while Belgium recorded an increase of 6%. The services sector was the hardest hit, accounting for around 700 bankruptcies, while the construction sector counted 165 cases. One quarter of the companies that went bankrupt had been operating for less than five years.
Looking ahead, Creditreform forecasts a market recovery next year, driven by expectations of increased state aid, particularly targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises.
