From the archivesWhen plastic was still fantastic...

RTL Today
RTL and the Centre for Audiovisual Content (CNA) have provided us with another glimpse into the past, this time focusing on the age of plastic in the 1950s.
Années 50 : L'âge d'or du plastique
Un reportage de Télé Luxembourg tourné en 1956 à Liège sur une exposition consacrée au plastique. Un matériau considéré comme “miracle” à l’époque.

This footage is from an RTL television report filmed in Liège in 1956. A special exhibition dedicated to plastic, then still considered a new miracle material, made big waves in the post-war era.

As far as the eye could see, everything was made out of plastic at the exhibition: furniture, kitchen appliances, textiles, and even cars. The first Belgian vehicle with a coachwork entirely made out of plastic was presented to the public in Liège.
