From the archivesLuxembourg's railway station receiving its electrical upgrade in 1958

RTL and the national centre for audiovisual material present snippets from its archives.
La gare de Luxembourg passe à l'électrique
En 1958, les CFL ont entrepris des travaux d’électrification des voies de chemin de fer.

The video depicts the last steam locomotives entering Luxembourg City’s railway station, before the entire ground is being upgraded with an electric system.

The CFL workers can be seen seen installing the new grid step by step, which runs at 15,000 volts. Kilometers of trenches had to be dug to properly install the modernised infrastructure. The sight of people of on electric poles without proper safety regulations is not for the fainthearted.
