With yet another public holiday fast approaching on Tuesday 9 May, here are some ideas to inspire your family plans.

1. Europe Day festival at Place de l'Europe, Luxembourg City

From 12pm to 6pm visitors will be welcome at the European Village where many European Institutions will be present, featuring concerts, food trucks, entertainment and much more. The event will include an official ceremony with appearances by Grand Duke Henri, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer, and other familiar political faces.

2. Europe Day concert at the Luxembourg Philharmonie

For older kids and their families there is also an evening concert at the Philharmonie, from 8pm to 9.30pm.

3. The 2023 Octave market in Luxembourg City

Why not visit the traditional Octave market, which is running until 14 May 2023 at the Place de la Constitution.

4 Meet Lucky Luke the Famous Cowboy at Cora Messancy, Belgium

From 9 May to 13 May, enjoy with the children a journey to the Lucky Luke Universe with activities such as rodeo, archery, puzzle-solving, games and more. Activities run from 1pm to 6pm and you can find out more here.

5. Enjoy a day at Recrealle, Belgium 

Recrealle will be open on 9 May and it makes a great day out for families, with options for sports, games, bowling, nature activities and an excellent outdoor playground. Find out more here.

6. Get back to nature at Belgium's Parc Chlorophylle 

Parc Chlorophylle will be open on 9 May and sometimes there is nothing better than heading to the great outdoors to wear the kids out. With treetop paths, playgrounds and more, find out what you can enjoy as a family here.

7. Open day at the Schuman House, Luxembourg 

From 4pm to 6pm, guests are welcome to tour the premises and visit the "Schuman Declaration, 9 May 1950" exhibition, as well as an art exhibition by Clausen primary school titled "All Land, eng Blumm". There will also be a presentation of a new video retracing the career of convinced European Robert Schuman, with finger food and drinks on offer. More information can be found on the website.

8. Visit Luxembourg's Science Center

Science is always so much fun for everyone. Discover what the Science Center has to offer this Europe Day, with interactive exhibits to delight the whole family.

9. A fun day out at Parc Merveilleux

A favourite among the families of Luxembourg, the Marvellous Park will also be open on 9 May.

10. Visit Houtopia, Belgium 

Houtopia, with its sensory experience and outdoor playground, will be open on 9 May and as it falls during Belgian school holidays there will be a variety of activities on offer. Find the full programme here.

11. "Garten der Sinne" sensory garden in Merzig, Germany

A fantastic place surrounded by nature, flowers, circular bare foot path, playground and café, this really is worth the trip and not too far from Luxembourg.

12. Discover a new playground in Luxembourg

Luxembourg has many amazing playgrounds, guaranteeing lots of fun! Why not visit some of the recent additions like the one in Heringer Millen, or the one in Remich Parc Brill, or the new one in Wormeldange.

13. Make a splash at the Wiltz "Wasserfest" 

Head to the Upper-Sûre nature park for a wonderful water-themed family event, from 10am until 5pm on Tuesday. The Kaul leisure centre in Wiltz will host a series of activities such as arts and crafts, discovery of water animals, theatrical shows and more.
