From medieval castles to pirate parties and literary adventures, September in Luxembourg is full of family-friendly festivals and activities.

International Children's Literature Festival‘Book On!

Neimënster Abbey will host the third edition of Luxembourg's international children's literature festival at the end of the month.

Specially designed for children up to 14, the two-day programme brings together authors, illustrators, storytellers, musicians, and performers from Luxembourg, Lithuania, Germany, Italy, Catalonia, and Poland.

Activities will take place in Luxembourgish, French, German, Italian, English, and Lithuanian.

Back to school pirate party

Laborartorium in Livange kicks off the school year with a family pirate party. Children can take part in a treasure hunt, enjoy the playground, and join face-painting sessions, while parents are encouraged to get into costume too.

NaturMusee Fest

The National Museum of Natural History opens its doors for a full day of activities. Visitors can explore the labs and collections, try experimental workshops, enjoy games for all ages, and even take a mini boat trip on the Alzette – all free of charge.

Potato Festival, Binsfeld
The popular ‘Gromperefest’ returns to Binsfeld, celebrating the humble potato with food, fun, and family activities.

Schueberfouer: The final days

Luxembourg City’s biggest funfair continues until 10 September. On the final day, rides, stalls, and games are half price until 20.00, followed by a firework display over the Pont Grande-Duchesse Charlotte at 22.00.

September Kiermes

Across Luxembourg's communes, traditional fairs bring rides, games, and food stands throughout September. Towns including Diekirch, Ettelbruck, Mersch, and Beaufort are among those hosting their local Kiermes.

Medieval festival in Koerich

The castle of Koerich transforms into a medieval village for a family festival with workshops, demonstrations, music, magicians, craftsmen, blacksmiths, and games. Admission is free, and the nearby playgrounds make it ideal for children.
